Performed as part of a regular dental examination, mouth cancer screenings can help detect any signs or issues early and give peace of mind to patients.

Like most cancers, early detection and diagnosis are so important when it comes to mouth cancer, which is why our team perform them during all dental examinations at Scottish Dental Clinic.

During the screening, we’ll check for any signs or symptoms and let you know if any further action needs to be taken.

What are the signs of possible mouth cancer?

• Red or white patches in the mouth
• Sores or ulcers
• Lumps, bumps or other abnormalities
• Unusual tongue patterning
• Swelling under the chin and neck

What causes mouth cancer?

The chances of mouth cancer are increased in patients who smoke or drink excessive amounts of alcohol. HPV can also increase your risk of developing mouth cancer.

What happens if the dentist detects any signs or symptoms?

Depending on the individual case, we’ll either ask you back for a follow-up or refer you to a specialist.
