Using the latest techniques, technology, and materials, we’re able to repair and restore teeth in a minimally-invasive manner with inlays and onlays.

Performing a similar function to a filling or crown, inlays and onlays are made bespoke for the patient in an off-site dental laboratory and then expertly placed here at the practice.

What is the difference between inlays and onlays?

Inlays work in a similar manner to fillings and are designed to repair teeth that have a cavity. They are often used in situations where a filling wouldn’t be suitable, either because the surface area is too large (such as with teeth towards the back of the mouth) or because a previous filling has failed.

Onlays are more similar in function to crowns and are designed to repair the cusp of the tooth – that is, the part of the tooth that is most visible. They are a less invasive option than a crown as they don’t require removal of the tooth’s surface and instead are bonded to the tooth being treated.

How long does the treatment take?

Placement of an inlay or onlay usually requires two appointments.

Will the treatment be painful?

We will always numb the area being treated and apply a local anaesthetic, so you don’t have to worry about experiencing any pain or discomfort when being treated. We’re also able to offer sedation services to patients who feel they need it.
