Cosmetic damage to the teeth can occur over time, but with veneers, we can cover up any aesthetic issues giving patients a new smile they love.

Veneers are a popular cosmetic dentistry treatment designed to help cover up and address minor aesthetic issues with a smile. Made up of an ultra-thin, tooth-coloured covering that is often made of porcelain, the veneer is bonded to the surface of the natural tooth acting as a kind of cap.

Veneers can be used to address:

  • Small gaps between the teeth
  • Discolouration of the teeth
  • General wear and tear
  • Chips
  • Cracks
  • Minor overlapping/overcrowding issues

What types of veneers are there?

Veneers are usually made of either porcelain or composite. Both have their benefits, with composite veneers offering a slightly less expensive alternative to porcelain veneers.

Benefits of porcelain veneers:

  • Highly durable
  • Mimics the natural surface of the tooth very well – even the way light reflects on it
  • Non-porous, meaning it doesn’t stain from food or drink

Benefits of composite veneers:

  • Minimally-invasive
  • Easily repaired if damaged
  • Natural opacity

Does the application of veneers require the removal of part of the natural tooth?

Yes, in order to apply veneers, we will have to remove some of the tooth’s surface. This is to make sure the veneer fits naturally and doesn’t appear overly large or bulky in the mouth, as well as to aid in the bonding of the veneer to the tooth. Thanks to modern techniques and materials, far less of the tooth needs to be reduced than in the past.
