Dentures offer patients a permanent, removable, and cost-effective solution to the problem of missing teeth.

Dentures remain a very popular way to replace missing teeth. Made up of an acrylic or cobalt chrome base and a set of prosthetic teeth, they can be used to replace up to a whole arch of teeth at once or to replace one or several teeth.

Why do I need dentures?

We always recommend replacing missing teeth wherever possible. Missing teeth can affect the patient’s smile confidence, speech, and eating, as well as lead to a variety of other oral health issues. Dentures can also be used to immediately replace a tooth or teeth after extraction.

What types of dentures are there?

Dentures are available as either ‘full’ or ‘partial’.

  • Full dentures replace up to a whole arch of teeth at once, sitting over the roof of the mouth if replacing teeth on the upper jaw, or forming a horseshoe shape around the tongue when used on the lower jaw. Full dentures are usually held in place via a dental adhesive, or sometimes through suction.
  • Partial dentures replace just some of the teeth and can be used to replace missing teeth that do not adjoin one another. Instead of being held in place with adhesive, partial dentures use the existing natural teeth as support.

What is the treatment process like?

Receiving dentures occurs over several appointments, during the first of which we’ll take intraoral digital scans and measure you for your dentures. The dentures will then be made off-site and then we’ll place a mock-up of the dentures made of wax, so we can be sure the fit, bite, comfort, and appearance are all suitable. When we’re happy with this, we’ll be able to fit your personal dentures.
