With a bridge, we can replace a missing tooth, mending a gap in a smile while returning the mouth to full function.

Bridges are designed to fill in a gap left behind by a missing tooth or teeth. As one of the most cost-effective ways to repair a broken smile, they remain an extremely popular type of restoration.

Using neighbouring healthy teeth as anchors, a prosthetic tooth or teeth are held in place by crowns or another support structure.

Types of bridge available:

A conventional bridge is one of the most popular types of a bridge placed. These bridges require two neighbouring healthy teeth onto which crowns are placed in order to anchor the new prosthetic tooth or teeth.

A bonded or Maryland bridge also uses two neighbouring healthy teeth but attaches the prosthetic tooth/teeth via a frame to the back of the teeth. These frames can be made from either metal or porcelain.

What is the treatment process like?

Receiving a bridge usually takes place across two appointments. At the first appointment, we’ll prepare the neighbouring support teeth and then take intraoral digital scans of the mouth which will be sent off to the dental laboratory where your bridge will be made. Once the bridge is made, you’ll return to the practice where we will place it for you, making sure the fit and bite are correct and comfortable for you.
