Bone grafts can help patients with lower bone density in the jaw receive a dental implant safely and effectively.

When it comes to tooth replacement, dental implants are the closest thing to a natural tooth. For some patients, however, tooth loss or severe damage may have had repercussions for their jaw and bone density, making the implant process a bit more complicated. With bone grafts, we can help rebuild bone density and ensure all our patients are able to receive the tooth replacement they require.

What is a bone graft?

With a bone graft, we can increase the height and width of the bone at the area in the mouth where the implant is going to be placed. For this, we take material either from the patient’s body, another donor, animal donors, or a synthetic and place it in the area that has suffered from bone loss. The new tissue contains collagen and proteins that will promote the natural production of bone tissue, thereby offering both a short-term and long-term solution.

Why might I need a bone graft?

A missing tooth or severely damaged or decayed tooth can lead to bone density loss in the jaw. When placing a dental implant, there has to be enough healthy bone available to ensure the implant will safely and successfully fuse with the jawbone. Performing a bone graft can help us provide dental implants to our patients who would most benefit from them.

Is the treatment painful?

You’ll be placed under anaesthetic, so you don’t have to worry about experiencing any pain or discomfort during the treatment.
